Art. 1 Aims of the Festival

The festival aims at promoting the vast heritage of Italian and foreign sacred music through vocal and/or instrumental concerts that will take place in renowned churches and Roman basilicas with no charge for admission. Therefore, it will not be possible to grant compensation and/or repayment of expenses to participants; no grading for merit is to be expected, as only a plate and a certificate of participation in the Music Festival will be awarded.

Art. 2 Groups

a) Participation in the ROMAinCANTO International Music Festival is reserved for male, female and mixed choral groups, youthful and treble voices, amateur and/or professional choruses and professional orchestras.

b)The same chorus will be allowed to appear in different groups and with different conductors, too.

Art. 3 Repertoires

Only sacred music selections will be performed by choruses at the Music Festival as performances will be held in Rome’s historical basilicas, chosen by the organizing Committee. As for the repertoire, it must not include opera excerpts or selections regarded as profane, but only those musical pieces that the Committee considers appropriate for the place where the event is to take place.

The Committee may, therefore, ask prospective participants to change the selections proposed if they are not in keeping with the cultural features of the Festival and the sacredness of the place where the event is to be held.

Art. 4 Subscription

Groups wishing to take part in the event  must fill in a REGISTRATION FORM published on the site (see the link below) in order to be contacted by the organizing Committee and should, if possible, send a tape or CD recording of one or more of their performances  by priority mail to: "Associazione Musicale ROMAinCANTO, piazza Sant'Alessio, 23 - 00153 Roma", together with the registration form published on the site.

Upon request of ROMAinCANTO Association, they must send by priority mail a

DULY SIGNED SUBSCRIPTION FORM

enclosing:

- a biography of the chorus and its director;
- a list of the selections to be performed;

the following information must  be provided for each musical excerpt:

a) the composer’s and/or transcriber’s name, surname, place and date of birth,
and, if necessary, date of death;

b) an Italian translation of the title and text of the selection (no Latin
translation is required);

c) the overall duration of the musical piece;

d) the possible use of any particular typical instruments or rhythmical movements expressing the authentic tradition of a specific  geographic area (it will be possible to wear traditional costumes).

Art. 5 Duration of performance

The overall duration of performance for each chorus must not exceed 20 minutes including pauses between excerpts. The duration of performances by instrumental groups instead will have to be agreed upon. It is possible to try the acoustics of the church on the same day of the performance, by making previous arrangements with the Committee.

Art. 6 Expiry date for the subscription form

The subscription form must be forwarded no later than 10 of April 2008 making sure that every part of it is properly filled in. The selected groups will be contacted by  ROMAinCANTO Musical Association before 30 of april 2008 for further details about the event. Sending the subscription form involves full acceptance of the regulations stated herein.

Art. 7 Recording rights

The organization retains the right to record and broadcast performances, making free use of them with no compensation to participants.
